Garnet

Garnet or as it is known in Hebrew, “nofach”, has been rated as one of the most popular stones for thousands of years. In the ancient world special significance was attached to garnet as many nations believed that the stone had protective and therapeutic powers and it was generally recognized as a sacred stone. The Indians used it during battle because they believed it could inflict severe wounds on the enemy.
Garnet appears in Latin as “Granatum”, which means a pomegranate, and it probably received this name because of its globular crystallized shape and its prevalent red color. Garnet appears naturally in various colors such as red, green, brown, pink, orange, black and so forth. Almandine garnet is the most common such stone and its color ranges from dark red to red with a tinge of purple, and sometimes brownish red or even black. Unique inclusions of rutilated needles and tiny zircon crystals that occasionally appear in garnet stones lend the stone its sheen and brilliance.

Garnet is well known for its positive influence on the sexual and reproductive organs. It assists in treating hormonal complaints and alleviates the symptoms associated with menopause. Similarly, the stone is beneficial in strengthening the body when convalescing after illness as it stimulates and regulates the blood circulation. Some people use it as an aid in treating cardiac problems, disorders of the spinal column and arthritis.

In the psychological domain, garnet is believed to bring inspiration, creativity and motivation. It can help an individual become aware of his or her true aptitudes. The stone generates an optimistic outlook on life and brings good fortune in all areas.
